Happy Friday, Sunshine!
How has your week been? Do you have any big weekend plans?
My week was pretty good.
My schedule has been way off track and so I just don’t feel “normal.”
Know what I mean?
Next week is a regular
Monday – Friday 8am-4pm
Workweek so that will help get back on track, I hope.
Last night I got to see my
fabulous blog-friend-turned-real-life-friend Brittney.
{She writes the blog Running in High Heels, you should read it.}
Last night was the first time that, upon being asked how we met, we said, “Online.”
{I sort of felt like the people thought we were referring to an online dating site at first. ha!}
Before we had always answered by saying that both Brittney and my husband went to the same college.
Which is not a lie –
They did go to the same school…
they just didn’t know each other.
they just didn’t know each other.
We attended a young professionals event at a locally owned bar/restaurant.
It was a lot of fun.
I finally feel like I’ve developed a solid community of friends my own age…
I said that to C and he said,
“So you’ll just do it again in Sacramento.”
He’s a glass half-full kind of guy.
That’s why I married him.
{Okay, not really…well, sorta….but not the only reason I married him}
At the restaurant I posted my very first
Operation Beautiful note
in the bathroom.
Right as I was about to take a picture, two girls came in.
I was so nervous that I just ran out.
After I left, I headed to the gas station next door where I decided that people getting gas
needed some encouragement too!
So I posted one there too
(with the same message).
My mom always said these words to me even when I was a
fat, awkward little girl with frizzy hair, acne, braces, glasses
and was definitely not gorgeous on the outside.
Thanks, Pookie.
Hopefully her words will mean something to the people that saw the note too!

After I got home I
I tried to stay with it.
I even tried to distract myself with a little Office but just couldn’t do it.
Here’s a little piece of advice for you:
Having a bowl of seafood bisque and a Yuengling
and then coming home and bouncing around?
Yeah, its not the best idea.
After that I got in bed and read for a little bit.
I’ve been trying to get through So Long Insecurity for a couple of months.
Don’t get me wrong, the book is fabulous and Beth Moore is fabulous.
Beth, its me, not you.
Speaking of books,
{that was a nice little segway, huh? You liked it right?}
Each week, Kelly hosts Show Us Your Life.
This week’s feature is books.

Seriously, one of the best books I’ve ever read.
{If you’ve seen the movie, you should still read the book.
Even though I LOVE Rachel McAdams,
the book is 100 times better.}
I sobbed at the end.
Partly because of the ending but partly because
I was so invested in the characters, I was sad to see the book end.
Probably my top favorite book ever is Redeeming Love.
If I you take only one suggestion from me,
READ. THIS. BOOK.
To say it changed my life might sound dramatic
But it definitely fit in with what God was teaching me at the time I read it.
Major themes of the book:
You are worthy.
God’s grace is sufficient. No matter what.
And its not super churchy or corny like lots of other Christian fiction.
Other books I enjoy:
Girl Meets God
I went through a memoir phase, this was my favorite.
The Shopaholic Series
These books are light. Definitely good beach reading.
The Twilight Series
Of course.

So what are you favorite books…? And have you ever posted an Operation Beautiful note before??
Have a happy weekend!!
Have a happy weekend!!

I adored "Redeeming Love"! Such an amazing book!
ReplyDeleteTime Travelers Wife was an emotionally exhausting storyline! Love your blog, and I'm headed to Operation Beautiful right now!
ReplyDeleteLove the note!! You are so sweet. The Time Travelers Wife is one of the best books I've ever read, thankfully I read it instead of watching the movie :)
ReplyDeleteI met my hubby online and we still tell certain people we met through friends, I've made a blog friend as well.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea behind Operation Beautiful. Good for you for doing that.
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to get to meet blog friend in real life and then become real life friends. What a fun time for you.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Redeeming Love. I've read it THREE times.
I didn't however, care for The Time Traveler's Wife. I know I'm probably the only one. I thought the movie was better than the book. Strange, I know.
If you like the vampire type books you should try the House of Night series by P.C. Cast. It's a junvile fiction series like Twilight.
Have a great weekend!
i LOOOOVE your operation beautiful!!!!! you are so pretty too girl!!!
ReplyDeletei wish i had time to read books!
I love Francine Rivers!! And I love your Operation Beautiful sign. What an awesome idea. Thanks for blogging about it. Going to check it out now!
ReplyDeleteHave a WONDERFUL week!
WHAT AN AMAZING POST! I love all of these things! how great; I'm so glad I found this blog you have talent
ReplyDeleteGirl Meets God is one of my favorite books of all time. The Jewish traditions blended with the Christian heart - ug. that is my desired life!
ReplyDeleteI know this is so cheesy, but I just read a murder mystery, Alibi, by Sue Grafton. She's written a whole series. Supposedly she went through a really messy divorce, and her inspiration comes from all the ways she imagined she'd kill her husband! Crazy! My book club is now reading the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, but I've been so busy, I haven't picked it up yet. I've heard mixed reviews...

ReplyDeletei can't wait to share this with my little girl as she grows up. (she's only 3 months now...)
"Girl Meets God" sounds right up my alley...and not just because it's similar to my blog name :P I wonder if they carry it in my church's book store!
ReplyDeleteAnd by the way - thanks for the tweet/tip yesterday. You're layout is gorgeous!! xoxo
The shopaholic series is great! sophie kinsella also writes as madeline wickham.
ReplyDeleteOmg Redeeming Love IS my all-time favorite book too. I just loaned mine to a friend because I told her she HAD to read it. She's in love with it now too. Such a good book. :)
