Happy Monday morning! How was your 4th of July?
Ours was good.
We didn't do anything really out of the ordinary -
went to church,
thanked Jesus for our freedom,
browsed some furniture stores,
took a nap,
went out to dinner,
watched a mediocre fireworks display-
except we did all of those things in our new city!!
We got in to Sacramento on Friday afternoon
after a very long 5 days on the road.
After living in a small college town for the past 2.5 years
I'm pretty excited and a little bit overwhelmed
by all of the great shopping, places to eat and things to see/do.
Good thing I start my job tomorrow
because our bank account is going to need some replenishing!
So, have you ever made a big move?
Any tips or advice for me getting started out in a new city?
Have a great week!!

Wow...it must all be so exciting!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you made it there safely! Now the journey really begins!
ReplyDeleteone of my favourite things about living in the Sacramento area (I live right outside of it) is getting out of it ;) it's just such a wonderful location because you can go to Lake Tahoe, Reno, San Francisco, etc all within a couple hours of driving. Midtown is nice (you can hit up Second Saturday on the 2nd Saturday of every month), the State fair will be in town soon, lots of great places on the river (try Crawdad's when they have live music), the Rivercats have a great stadium if you guys like baseball, tons of great parks if you're into walking/running (like McKinley park), you can head up to Folsom Lake this summer, etc...there's lots of stuff to do, as boring as everyone makes Sacramento sound. have fun and enjoy! good luck with your new job!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's awesome! For some reason I thought you were moving to DC, not Sacramento! Definitely take the time to explore the city, every week! Try not to eat at chain restaurants during your couple of first months, ask coworkers for advice on what to see where to eat, etc. And find a great church to get plugged into!
ReplyDeleteThat is so exciting!! What a huge culture change, it will be so fun to explore and find new things you love!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy :)

ReplyDeleteI've been wondering about you...glad to hear that you, C and Tifi made it safe & sound!!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you made here! Fun fourth of July for you guys. :)
ReplyDeleteA few tips for the area. Sacramento has a very active craigslist which will be a great resource as you try to find furniture & whatnot.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely come to Davis and check out the Saturday morning Farmer's Market.
Walk around where you live and get familiar with all the random bits and pieces of the neighborhood.
Visit the parks on the weekends.
And of course feel free to send me an email if you want any specific info about the Sac area :-)
