They offered free donuts for a year to the first 24 people in line.
People started lining up eighteen hours before they opened.
{I don't know if fall has arrived where you live but
here in NorCal, its still in the 90s.
So basically what I'm telling you is, those people are crazy.}
Through out the day, the drive thru line was consistently 20 - 30 cars long.
That's a long time to wait for a donut, y'all.
While I do enjoy the occassional donut every few months,
I don't crave them like, say, cupcakes.
So, given those things, it would be safe to assume that I avoided the Opening Day ridiculous, right?
Wrong.

I convinced Cody to take me and my sister at 11:00pm.
You can't tell from that picture but there were 14 people working at 11:45 pm,
which was what time it was when we actually go to the window.
Actually, 14 was how many I counted, there very well could have been more.
Here's the thing about me:
even though Public Relations is my career
I fall for marketing ploys and gimmicks all the time.
If there's a lot of buzz about a new product or its in high demand, I want it.
I want to be part of it.*
Now you know that that donut did not taste any better just because it was Opening Day
but I just had to be a part of the craziness.
I don't even really know why.
While we were in line Krystie tweeted to tell me that I was waiting in a long line just for a donut.
I responded that it wasn't even about the donut anymore,
it was about the adventure.

*Sidenote: In my professional opinion,
I think that's what happened with the new Missoni for Target line.
Don't get offended but that stuff is not cute, y'all.
Why did women storm Target stores across the country and why did the Target website crash over it?
Buzz.
Good PR.
But definitely not because its cute.

I will never understand Missoni! Never.
ReplyDeleteMy town got a White Castle recently and the line was ridiculous for a week...I wasn't drawn in. Now when Dunkin Donuts opens in a few months, watch out! Also, agree on the Missoni line at Target!
ReplyDeletetotally agree about the missoni line. although I did buy some flats.
ReplyDeleteof course you needed krispy kreme!
i am the same way about new products. I ordered a erin condren life planner even though I already had a calendar!
Haha, love it kate! wished we lived in the same city!
ReplyDeleteWow, I can't believe how busy they were! I'm like you though...I have to be a part of things like that.
ReplyDeleteAnd I totally agree about the Missoni line. I don't get it
